Sessions will look at:
- The LGBT community - on screen and behind the scenes in broadcasting. Do the media have a responsibility to challenge perceptions about LGBT people?;
- Discussion of the BBC’s consultation into the portrayal of lesbian, gay and bisexual audiences;
- Sexual diversity and the media - representation, equal employment and regulation; and
- Power of the pink pound - analysis of the LGBT spend and opportunities for advertisers and brands.
A key output of the seminar will be a transcript of the proceedings, sent out within a week of the event to Ministers and officials at Ofcom, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and other departments affected by the issues, as well as Parliamentarians with a special interest in these areas. It will also be made available more widely.
The seminar is organised on the basis of strict impartiality by the Westminster Media Forum on Wednesday 7 July in the afternoon. An up to date copy of the agenda and information about subscriptions can be viewed ‘live’ here.
