On Roma portrayal

In a project started by the Center for Independent Journalism in Hungary students made short documentaries on Roma portrayal and discrimination against Roma people.This project was supported by the Dutch Embassy in Budapest. Some subtitled examples can be watched on this site.

Building  walls  (EmelkedÅ‘ falak)

Interviews with government officials, civil activists and the President of the Equal Treatment Auhority to show data and features of institutional discrimination against Roma in Hungary, especially in the areas of housing and education.

 

Ruined (Romokban)  

The story of a Roma family living in a shack on a no-man’s-land near Budapest three years after they had been evicted from their home.
 

You are allowed to compete! (Versenyképes!)

Two parallel stories of two outstanding sportsmen with impaired vision and their efforts to participate in competitions at home and internationally. The documentary show their initiatives to become sports trainers and also successful in daily life.

The Child as a Bait (A gyermek mint csali)

This documentary shows how child-related topics can be used by media to attract attention of readers and also how children’s rights are often abused by these coverages.
